What does Abraham have to do with Jesus in any way? His >covenent was >with god, and god alone. His faith was in god, not in jesus. He, as >did jesus, >died a jew. It amazes me that you preface any ideas about after >death with the >word "obviously" > > Hippo > > (this is my only comment, but i didn't know how to erase the >rest) > As a Christian, I believe that Jesus is God. Abraham was asked about. Salvation was asked about. I responded. Yes, Abraham did make a covenant with God alone--God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Abraham didn't have a faith in Christ as Christians do now because Jesus hadn't arrived on earth yet. Abraham's faith in God justified him, but it was through Jesus Christ's sacrifice that PAST, present, and future sins can be crushed. Since God knew Abraham's heart was righteous, Abraham was saved. When Abraham went to Heaven, he was certainly made aware of Jesus Christ--he met Him. That doesn't mean that folks now can reject Jesus and expect to be saved. And yes, Jesus died a Jew, but He rose again. You may not agree with this, but just hear me out. Did you read the rest of my post? The old >testament was >written by god (for the sake of argument at least) and the new >testament was >written by men. That should put a lot more stock in the old. Why >wasn't abe's >salvation by christ mentioned in the old? > According to most Christians, the Old Testament and the New Testament were and are both the inspired Word of God. II Timothy 3:16 is one of the verses that mention this. As far as the way the OT and NT were written, there is no difference. God used men to put His Word down in both cases. Jesus, God incarnate, had come to earth....that's where the OT and NT differ. The OT was the foundation and building up ...the law and the prophecy. The NT is the striving and growing in Christ...the fulfillment of law and prophecy through Christ. Christ had not appeared on earth during the Old Testament. The Old Testament was a time where the holy nation and a holy people were being born. That is why back then that you had such stringency of an eye for an eye... It took such stringency to make unruly humans into a holy people. When Jesus came, He fulfilled the law. Every eye that needed to be taken for another eye was done on the cross. That is why it is now turn the other cheek. For the most part, because of Jesus, there is a more personal relationship with God and the potential for spiritual maturity. People know about Christ and the means through salvation now. Beacon Deacon
